The Autobot Matrix of Leadership is a fragment of Primus, the entity responsible for the creation of the Transformers. Encoding a portion of his lifeforce as a genetic matrix, set in light patterns within a crystal, Primus has given his children a means of creating new life, as he had created them.


The Matrix of Leadership is usually held by the leader of the Autobots. In most cases a physical change or "Reformat" occurs. With this change it is also common for the Transformer in posession of the Matrix to take on a "Prime" variation of their name.

The Matrix retains the imprint of each Transformer to house the Matrix. This has lead to the Matrix also being referred to as "The Wisdon of the Ages".
